1985 Cinelli Supercorsa
A Cinelli Supercorsa was always on my wish list of classic bikes. This 1985 model came my way a few years ago, and had enough battle wounds that I wasn't going to feel bad about riding it. It is my bike of choice for Eroica style events.
Originally, I built the bike up with Shamal wheels and an 8sp Campagnolo groupset, but then a Campagnolo 50th anniversary groupset fell into my lap, and it felt like the right thing to do was to mount it on the Supercorsa. The 50th group is a relatively low production number, #3063 of 15,000 made, but the components had already been used, so again I felt no guilt about putting these beautiful parts on a bike to be ridden.
One of the silver Ambrosio rims was sadly destroyed, so I had the wheels rebuilt with anodized Mavic SSC rims, which I think look a lot better. The frame is 61cm x 58cm, and I was able to get the drivetrain to function with a 41x30 lowest gear.
This particular Supercorsa model with white decals, was reportedly built for the US market with tight "criterium racing" angles. The steep head tube angle on this bike makes the ride very twitchy, which does takes a bit of getting used to.
