1974 Somec #112
I acquired this Somec a while back in a partial trade with a fellow bike nut in Denver. When I got it, it was a non-original dull blue color. After a few rides I sadly found the frame had the classic drive-side dropout crack
This prompted me to get the frame repaired and repainted, and then rebuilt nicely with mostly correct 1974 parts.
I contacted Somec, and Oliviero Gallegati's daughter Lara who is in charge of their customer service, was extremely helpful. She told me it is a somewhat rare frame from the first year of production at Somec. It is the 112th frame they built, and at that time Somec had not yet started using the tulip on the fork crown, and instead my bike has a stylized Somec engraved onto the fork crown with an oversized S.
I believe the frame is Columbus SL/SP mix, and measures 60cm x 60cm. Quite an add size, but it fits me perfectly and is one of my most enjoyable bikes to ride.
